We are now accepting applications from CMEA members and the dependents of current or deceased CMEA members for the academic year starting September 2021.  Applicants must have completed or be in their final year of secondary schooling and preparing to attend or continuing a program at a certified post-secondary educational institution.

There are nine educational bursaries of $1,500 awarded annually for the year of study starting in September to nine applicants based on the eligibility and selection criteria detailed in this directive.

As National Peacekeepers’ Day approaches (9 August), the CMEA recognizes that this year marks the 65^th anniversary of the United Nations Emergency Force that operated in Gaza and the Sinai from 1956 until 1967. Its first commander was Canadian Lieutenant-General E. L. M. Burns who commanded UNEF until 1959. Readers may recall that General Burns commanded the First Canadian Corps during the Italian Campaign and was originally an RCE Officer.

I am very pleased to inform you of the Change of Command of the CF Real Property Operations Group from Col M.W.J. Rancourt, CD, to Col D.R. Henley, MSM, CD on 15 July 2021.

Col Henley was also appointed as the CAF Branch Advisor for the Canadian Military Engineers, effective 15 July 2021.

July 2021 marks the 100^th anniversary of the adoption of the poppy as the symbol of remembrance in Canada.

In 1918, Moina Michael, a staff member of the American Overseas YMCA, wore a red poppy as a symbol of remembrance. She was inspired by John McCrae’s poem, “In Flanders Fields.” Michael petitioned the American Legion to recognize the poppy as the symbol of remembrance in 1920.
