After more than 36 years of loyal and dedicated service to the Canadian Armed Forces and the Canadian Military Engineer Branch, LCol D.W.A. Dubois, CD, (00181) will retire on 10 September 2026.

Born in Loretteville, Quebec, LCol Dubois joined the Canadian Forces while living as a dependant in Germany. Enrolled in 1990, he obtained a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree in 1994 from the Royal Military College and subsequently completed Basic Engineer Officer training in Chilliwack B.C. in 1995.
LCol Dubois has held Regimental appointments as a field troop commander, Regimental Intelligence Officer, Squadron 2IC and Adjutant, during two tours with 2 Combat Engineer Regiment, was the Adjutant of 31 CER (The Elgins) and commanded 51 Field Squadron in 5 Combat Engineer Regiment.
LCol Dubois has served in numerous staff positions: G3 Y2K at 31 Brigade HQ in London, CBRN Desk Officer in the Directorate of Army Doctrine, Deputy Joint Engineer in Canadian Expeditionary Forces Command (CEFCOM) HQ, Executive Assistant to the DComd CEFCOM, was a staff officer in ADM(IE) and was the Deputy Chief of Staff, Army Training Authority in CADTC.
LCol Dubois has spent a significant amount of his career as a trainer. In the mid 90s he was a course officer for Army Junior Leader trg and two DP1 Combat Engineer courses. He spent 7 months as the Officer Commanding the Field Engineer Training Squadron at the Canadian Forces School of Military Engineering (CFSME) and has instructed at the CF CBRN school and the CA Command and Staff College where he served as DS, Engr SME and Dean. From 2013-2015 he commanded CFSME, followed by 2 years as Deputy Commander of the Combat Training Centre.
LCol Dubois has deployed three times, spending 6 months in Sarajevo, Bosnia, as the Executive Officer to the SFOR Chief Engineer in 98/99, 9 months in Kandahar, Afghanistan as the Joint Engineer in Regional Command South Headquarters in 2007/08, and 2 months in Addis Ababa Ethiopia as the CAF Liaison Officer to the African Union. He received a CME Branch Commendation for his deployment to Kandahar.
LCol Dubois is a graduate of the Royal Military College, the Canadian Land Force Command and Staff College and the Canadian Forces College. He is married to Nathalie Lysight, the Senior Human Resources Administrator in CADTC. They are the proud parents of a 16 year old son, Ryan. LCol Dubois enjoys most sports, but in particular mountain biking, swimming and an occasional round of golf.
LCol Dubois was posted to the Canadian Army Command and Staff College in 2024 as the Deputy Commandant and served as Commandant from January to July 2026, earning a Canadian Army Commander’s Commendation. He will retire from the CAF on 10 September 2026, and remain in the Kingston area. He has no immediate intentions to continue working, but will entertain offers in 2027.
