Firefighters Raise the Bar at the Second Edition of the Tactical Firefighter Games

The second edition of the Tactical Firefighter Games (TFG) has officially concluded, building on the strong debut of the inaugural event and confirming the Games as a growing cornerstone for the National Defence Fire Service (NDFS). Organized and led by the Personnel Support Programs (PSP), the 2026 Games ran from 16–27 February 2026, continuing to emphasize operational readiness, teamwork, and functional fitness.

As with the first edition, the focus remained on broad participation rather than elite performance. The Games were designed to challenge firefighters through tasks representative of the fire service trade while promoting safe competition, inclusivity, and professional development.

Significant Growth in Participation

Participation more than doubled in the second edition, with 214 firefighter athletes taking part—128 Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) and 86 Department of National Defence (DND) firefighters. Representation also increased, with 12 female athletes and 37 members of leadership participating.

A total of 16 fire halls, along with a dedicated Canadian Forces Fire Marshal (CFFM) team, participated—the broadest engagement to date. Notably, the top three fire halls achieved participation rates exceeding 60%, reflecting strong local support and growing engagement across the fire service community.

Strong Performance and Outstanding Safety

Despite the physically demanding circuit, the Games achieved a 99% completion rate, demonstrating the accessibility and effectiveness of the event design. Most notably, there were no injuries reported, underscoring the emphasis on safety, preparation, and smart programming. While individual results remain confidential, overall performance reflected the resilience, professionalism, and commitment of participating firefighters.

Camaraderie, Partnerships, and Momentum

Beyond fitness, the Tactical Firefighter Games once again fostered camaraderie, morale, and cross‑hall connection. Leadership participation alongside crews strengthened team cohesion and highlighted a shared commitment to health and readiness.

The 2026 edition also marked an important milestone with the support of valued sponsors, including Canadian Tire, BioSteel, and NutraPhase, further enhancing the athlete experience and recognizing the growing impact of the Games.

Looking Ahead

With increased participation, broader representation, strong completion rates, and an excellent safety record, the second edition of the Tactical Firefighter Games clearly demonstrated growth in scale and impact. The momentum continues to build, positioning the Games as a key initiative supporting fitness, readiness, and community across the NDFS—now and into future editions.
