We regret to advise of the death of Corporal Alexander Wilford “Alec” Taylor at the Riverview Health Centre in Winnipeg MB, on 15 April 2013, at the age of 97, after a short battle with cancer.
Alec was raised on a farm in the Lily Bay area of Manitoba, one of nine children of Scottish immigrants James and Agnes Taylor. During the Second World War, Alec joined the Royal Canadian Engineers and served overseas. Two of his brothers also served overseas.
Alec was considered a ‘Jack of All Trades’. He worked as a chimney sweep, painter and oil-burner service mechanic. He will be remembered by his friends and family for his generosity, practical skills and willingness to help others.
Alec was cremated, and his remains were placed in a military niche at Brookside Cemetery, Winnipeg.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Alec's memory to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of one's choice. Wojcik's Funeral Chapel & Crematorium, 1020 Main Street, Winnipeg, 204 586 8668 wojciksfuneralchapel.com.
